A Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway full title cast-iron sign. This is the version with 9 lines of text. 5th August 1903. Rectangular 26"x19", face-repainted only. The S&DJR was a joint enterprise of the LSWR and Midland created in 1875 from the Somerset & Dorset Railway, itself an amalgamation of the Somerset Central Railway and Dorset Central Railway in 1862.
A Cheshire Lines Committee original gold leaf garter arms transfer on board. This is the final design with ornamentation that adorned the varnished oak brown coaches from the 1880's. It incorporates the three shields of the owning Companies - the GNR (top); the GCR (left); and Midland, and was first printed in 1898. 24"x18", mint.
A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "34034". As carried by the ex Southern Railway 'West Country Class' 4-6-2 21C134 "HONITON", built at Brighton in July 1946. It was renumbered 34034 in July 1948 and was rebuilt at Eastleigh in August 1960. Latterly shedded at Exmouth Junction; Eastleigh and Nine Elms, it was withdrawn in July 1967 and cut up by Cashmores of Newport. The plate is in fine, ex-loco condition, clearly showing the BR(S)B triangle on the back.
A Southern Railway enamel TARGET "WIMBORNE". Minor edge-chipping only, and still fixed to its original backing-board. A scarce Dorset Target from the ex LSWR station, between Broadstone and West Moors, with a junction to the S&DJR, opened in 1847 and closed in 1964.
A London Brighton & South Coast Railway 4-aspect fogman's HANDLAMP. The body, stamped "L B&SCR", carries a large oval brass plate "London Brighton And South Coast Railway Company". The reducing-cone, also stamped "LB&SCR", carries a brass "B" (Brighton) plate. Complete with "S(B)R" vessel; SR brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. Repainted.
A French Railways aluminium CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "241.P.13". As carried by a SNCF standard gauge 4-cylinder De Glehn compound 4-8-2. It was built by Schneider at Le Creusot as Works No.4915 in 1947. The final design of passenger engine for all the heaviest expresses in the East Region, ahead of electrification. It was withdrawn in the 1960's. In ex-loco condition.
A TOTEM "SANDLING FOR HYTHE". BR(S) dark green, half-flanged. In very good condition if slightly mottled. From the ex SECR junction station, between Ashford and Folkestone, opened as "Sandling Junction" in 1888; renamed "Sandling For Hythe" in 1951; "Sandling" in 1980.
A South African Railways single-language brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "1207.8DW". As carried by the 3'6" gauge 4-8-0 built by Neilson Reid as Works No.6293 in 1903. It was Cape Government Railways No.375. An enlarged version of earlier Cape designs for mixed traffic, it became SAR 1207 in 1912, and was finally withdrawn in the 1970's. Several are preserved. Face-polished and repainted only.
A 19TH CENTURY NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, 31.5in. (79.5cms) blade slightly curved with fuller, etched with crown fouled anchor and coat of arms, by Ramsey of Fore Street, Devonport, gilt guard, lion head pommel and mounts, wire wrapped shagreen grip, leather scabbard (incomplete) the metal mount inscribed 'Presented to Mr T. R. Forward by T. S. Bolitho Esq, for his gallant conduct at the wreck on the Brissons Rock January 1851'
