MARGARET ROSS HISLOP RSA, RBA (Scottish 1894-1972) Shirley Poppies signed, inscribed verso, oil on panel 51cm x 40.5cm Note: Born West Calder and trained at Edinburgh College of Art. She exhibited at the RSA and was elected a Royal Scottish Academician in 1964. Best known for her still life and figures in oil, Hislop`s work has sold consistently strongly at Sotheby`s (£1400 & £1350) Christie`s, Lyon & Turnbull (£1200 & £1600), Bonhams and Philips (£1350 & £1300) over numerous years.
HENRY HADFIELD CUBLEY (British 1858-1934) The Harbour signed `H. Hadfield Cubley` (lower left), watercolour 36cm x 23cm Note: Cubley exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Birmingham Salon but most famously painted for Raphael Tuck & Sons who were publishers to Their Majesties The King and Queen. Tuck`s reproduced many of Cubley`s paintings as postcards through their printing houses in London, Paris and New York.

JULIUS OLSSON RA, RBA, PROI, RWA, NEAC (1864-1942) Blue Breakers Oil on canvas, signed 127cm x 183cm Note: Marine and landscape painter. Born 1 February 1864 in London, of a Swedish father and an English mother. Studied in London and abroad. Member of the N.E.A.C . 1891. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1890; A.R.A. 1914, R.A. 1920. Served in the R.N.V.R. in the 1914-18 War. P.R.O.I. 1919. Worked mainly in Cornwall. Died 7 September 1942 at Dalkey, Ireland. Memorial exhibition at the R.B.A. Galleries 1952. The most recent seascape by Olsson of this size to be offered at auction was sold by Christie`s (King Street, London) on 11th December 2008 for £17,500 including buyers premium (lot 14).
