A Victorian gold and gem set Renaissance Revival brooch by Carlo Giuliano, circa 1875, designed by Pasquale Novissimo, the central moonstone cabochon rub over set above peridot cabochon ‘leaves’, within a black and white fleur de lys style border with bright red enamel dot accents between, CG plaque applied to the brooch pin fitting, 3.2cm diameter, in a fitted octagonal brown leather bound case, the lid lined with silk stamped in gilt C. Giuliano 115, Piccadilly London. The C.G plaque is the second mark for Carlo Giuliano used between 1863 and 1895. Pasquale Novissimo was the chief designer at the Piccadilly branch of Giuliano from 1874 until 1914. Many of his original designs have survived in his family archives. Literature: Munn, G. * A pair of nephrite and ruby double sided cufflinks by Villa, Milan, the square carved nephrite panels inset with a cabochon ruby, with chain link connections signed Villa. The Milanese Jewellery Atellier Villa can trace its history back to the 1870’s, and later a boutique opened on the Via Manzoni in 1930. In 1995, the firm designed a collection of cufflinks to reflect the growing revival in cufflink wearing.
Two silver mounted tusk corkscrews, one of American manufacture, inscribed `The Jug For Mine The Book And Bread For Though`, and marked `Sterling`, with Edwin Walker`s 1900 patent bell with wire breaker and cap lifter, tusk engraved with a jug, book & bread, the next hallmarked Chester 1937 maker `Grey & Co` and a carved ivory cap lifter (3)
