A SILVER PLATED AND EBONISED WOODEN COMMEMORATIVE SPADE presented to Miss Janet Loveluck by Mr Phillip Gaylard on behalf of the Bridgend Master Buildings Association on the occasion on her cutting the first sod of the Bridgend council housing scheme at Coity Road Bridgend May 25th 1922. Makers impressed marks J.D and S to the reverse. 35 inches long approximately. CONDITION REPORT: Overall generally tarnished, some scuffs and knocks to the handle but no serious damage noted.

Early 18th century circular horn box, the cover carved with the Judgement of Solomon, Unsigned but attributed to John Obrisset; thought to have been previously owned by Admiral John Byng who in 1757 was court-martialled for failing to do his utmost to prevent his ship falling to the French and was sentenced to death and shot.Note we are advised that this box is illustrated in the book by Philip A S Philips, John Obrisset, Huguenot, carver, medallist, horn & tortoiseshell worker, & snuff-box maker plate 86.Provenance purchased from Horn Antiques, Audlem, Cheshire Mar 1991 Part of the Michael Shrubb (1934-2013) collection of snuff boxes. Michael Shrubb was a renowned ornithologist and author who investigated the effects of farming on British birds. He was born at Sidlesham near Chichester and in 1968 he moved to Llanwrtyd Wells in Wales and later to Aberdovey on the Welsh coast. For many years he edited Welsh bird report and Welsh birds and in 2012 he received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Welsh ornithological Society. He was a co-founder of the Sussex Ornithological Society and served as a council member of the RSPB and of The British Trust for Ornithology.
