TOY MAGNUM 44 HANDGUN (DAMAGED)

A boxed Dunhill table lighter in the form of a handbell together with a boxed miniature lighter in the form of a handgun, a cigarette box and cigarette case and a pocket warmer

A collectable Adams patent five shot, double action self-cocking Percussion Revolver of .442 calibre/54 Bore with an octagonal rifled barrel, 5 11/16" long approx. bearing the London Armoury Company mark, and having engraved to the frame "Adams' Patent no. 33,996 R" and (Beaumont) serial no. "B18,249". The revolver which unlike many military issue examples is nicely engraved with scrollwork retaining a considerable degree of bluing and has the Kerr Patent loading lever to the left hand side (no. 6672) and also has the sliding safety lever to the opposite side and bears the retailer's name to the top of the frame ''Chas. McLoughlin, 89 High Street, Cheltenham, No. 4148''. The frequently lost cylinder pin retaining thumb screw is still present and the chequered Walnut grips display little sign of wear or distress. The pistol measures 12 7/8" long overall and weighs 1110 gms. / 2 lbs 7 ozs approx. The revolver is presented in a green baize lined Oak case with various accoutrements including an Adams Bullet and Ball mould, powder flask, percussion cap tin, four lead bullets and a fine quality Ebony handled brass and polished steel screwdriver. The Adams patent double action revolver was an important milestone in handgun history which dominated the British Market from around 1867 being preferable to the Colt handguns of the time notwithstanding the fact that it was more expensive to procure.

Less than 9,000 Auto-Mags were produced by all manufacturers. This is an original Pasadena model of which 3,300 were manufactured in .44 AMP caliber only with 6-1/2" vent rib barrel. The handgun was made famous in the 1983 Dirty Harry movie "Sudden Impact". This pistol comes in original plastic carry case with the original May 1971 dated manual with bullet chart. It was subsequently engraved by Ben Shostle, a charter member of the Firearms Engravers Guild of American in Munci, Indiana. His certificate of engraving, dated 1994, lists this manufacture, model, caliber, and serial number (he wrote serial No. A01939 instead A01959). Has deep scroll and leaf engraving on frame, barrel and trigger guard done in the deep chiseled relief Germanic style. Has the stainless steel polished finished with black composite grips. Appears to have never been fired since finished. Mint action and near mint bore. Sports adjustable target sights. Simply a fantastic, early AMT Auto-Mag. Box hinge is broken. NB: With this lot comes some paperwork and correspondence including a media report stating "the mystery of the whereabouts of renowned Rockport Massachusetts artist William H. Stilson has been solved". The Montgomery County Coroners office last year identified Stilson as the skeletal remains found by a construction worker,"the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, a handgun was found next to the body".
