Ca. AD 618 - 907.A pair of female musician terracotta figures, both depicted standing upright with long flowing robes and high coiffed hair. One holds a small round hand drum diagonally across the chest, her right arm raised in a striking gesture. The other clasps a flute close to the mouth with both hands. Their faces are delicately shaped, with painted eyes and lips. Traces of green, red, and black pigments remain on the garments and instruments.Size: 360-360mm x 105-110mm; Weight: 2.5kgProvenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. These pieces have been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. ELKINGTON & CO; an Edwardian hallmarked silver four branch epergne, with four detachable hallmarked silver flutes, with later added central bowl, hallmarked for London 1919, maker's mark indistinct, raised on skeleton frame, diagonal measurement 37.5cm, height to top of flute holder 12cm, each flute height 12.5cm with a diameter of 8cm, the central bowl height 7cm, diameter 20.5cm, combined approx 45ozt.Condition Report: The bowl, even though it is a replacement, still looks the part, there is some movement between the bowl's foot rim and the recess of the stand but nothing too detrimental.
