Lot 234

Lenina Huxley's (Sandra Bullock) S.A.P.D. uniform from Marco Brambilla's sci-fi action-comedy Demolition Man. Twentieth-century police officer John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) was revived from cryogenic stasis in the future and partnered with Huxley to catch a violent criminal from his own time (Wesley Snipes). This costume consists of a nylon-and-polyester-blend jacket affixed with metal and resin details, and labelled "SB" on the interior; a pair of black Lycra stretch pants with suede patches at the knees, stirrup straps at the ankles, and "Lenina #2" labelled on the interior; a pair of Huxley's gold-coloured, circular rimmed sunglasses; a leather belt with metal details attached to a metal shoulder strap featuring lettered decals; and a navy blue button-up shirt with yellow and red patches at the neck and epaulette, and a pair of San Angeles patches on the breast pocket and shoulder. The leather belt and shirt appeared in the film, but are more generic officer components that were not specifically worn by Huxley; the shirt, for example, was worn by an S.A.P.D. computer technician. The costume exhibits minor wear throughout, including a large scratch on one of the sunglasses' lenses, some missing screws and decals on the belt, and some staining on the front of the jacket.£3000-5000 Ω

ENGLISH SCHOOL, 1800-1810 PORTRAIT OF AN OFFICER bust length, oil on panel, oval, 30 x 23cmThe style of the sitter's single breasted tunic and lace at the throat dates the present portrait to the first decade of the 19th century or thereabouts. The relatively plain uniform and black epaulette is of the type worn by some, but not all, of the many penal corps that served in the West Indies. The officer's cross belt shows no regimental inscription.++The medium a little thin in places and with some possible retouching, the varnish requiring a light clean, the panel not warped or split, the giltwood cavetto frame regilt in a bronzing paint and larger chip on edge of frame at 8 o'clock

Lot 509

ENGLISH SCHOOL,1830-1850 PORTRAIT OF AN OFFICER THE ROYAL FUSILIERS (7TH REGIMENT OF FOOT) bust length in uniform, oil on canvas, 73 x 59.5cmThe dating of the handsome post Regency Portrait of an Officer, perhaps a Captain of the Grenadier Company of his battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, is confirmed by details of the uniform. A boxed epaulette precludes a date before 1830 and the sitter's coatee was replaced by a tunic in about 1850.++Old restoration and lined on the reverse of the support an old, possibly late 19th c auctioneer's stencilled stock number, extensive old restoration, the medium with a bloomed appearance probably as a result of damp. In 18th/19th c giltwood and composition maratta frame
