The Villa and gardens were designed in the mid-16th century for Giovan Battista Strozzi, the park reflects his desire to expand the Cafaggio forest, for which he also acquired a number of the neighbouring properties. A Doccia Capo di Monte-style lidded tankard and cover, height 20cmCONDITION: Lion has been broken off and re-glued badly and visible, the lid is loose and the area at the rim of the hinge holes has been re-glued, there is a re-glued area at the rim of the jug and several hairline cracks to the glaze visible to the interior as well as minor chips to the rim, several chips to the leaves on the lid also.
A Doccia cream or butter boat, c.1760-80, formed as a leaf and moulded to the underside with a large green leaf, the stalk forming the handle, the interior painted with a small Oriental flower spray, 10.9cm across. CF. Victoria & Albert Museum, Accession No. C.194-1927 for a similar example.
