Extremely Rare Tudor Oyster Submariner stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch, ref. 7923, serial no. 2180xx, the black 'Swiss' gilt text dial marked with a small Tudor Rose 'Tudor Oyster Shock-Resisting 100m = 330ft', with luminous baton markers and outer gilt track, Mercedes hands and centre seconds, sixty minute rotating bezel, Rolex crown marked with +, manual wind 17 jewel movement, non-original expanding bracelet, bezel 37mm -360 VIEW-** The 7923 was produced in 1955 and is the only known manual wind version of the Submariner which Tudor or Rolex ever produced, ultimately the 7923 is one of the rarest models made by Tudor or Rolex - ** The watch has been passed down the family to the present owner via his late father in 1984, the scanned photographs show his father wearing the watch back in 1983, a copy of these digital images will be supplied with the purchase of the watch - ** A similar 7923 was sold on Ebay in March 2017, the serial number on that particular piece is the consecutive number to this watch offered for sale - Condition Report: -Movement - appears clean and currently. functioningDial - original dial with a nice consistent patina to the black surface and markings, surface blemish to the 4 o'clock area of the dial with a small visible mark, visible paint flaking to the rim of the dial which does not run though the gilt track, these are at the 12, 4-5, 5-6, 5-8 positions and can be viewed on the images supplied.Glass - visible surface marks and scratches present.Hands - the hands show a nice patina and colour matching the dial markings so certainly have been on the piece for many years, if not original. The few 7923 examples to have appeared on the open market have had both baton and 'Mercedes' examples so this is subject to opinion. The last service of the watch was in 1968 from the inside case inscriptions, so if the hands are replacements then they could have been changed back then, or possibly not! - please view images to satisfy your own opinion.Case - the bezel lacking the pearl and with typical surface marks and light scratches, the head with surface marks but generally considered goo, the case back has a service inscription on the inside dated 1968, typical surface marks and small mark to the milling on the back which is not significant - see all images supplied.Crown - the original crown, adjust correctly but not screwing down totally so the thread requires attention.Bracelet - later non-Tudor bracelet.-Condition reports are provided for general guidance only. Please view images and further information can be obtained upon request. Gardiner Houlgate do not guarantee the working order or time accuracy of any lots. Due to the opening of the wristwatch case backs, it is recommended watches are re-sealed by professional technicians to ensure any stated water resistance is retained

The Shah then regifted it to his half-sister, Princess Fatemeh Pahlavi, who gave it to the owner as gratitude for helping her become the first Iranian woman to fly a helicopter. -In the late 1960s, the owner a former military pilot was contracted to train helicopter pilots for the Iranian Air Force based in Ghale Morghi, Tehran. -The instructors were asked by Princess Fatemeh Pahlavi, wife of General Khatami, head of the Imperial Iranian Airforce, to teach her to fly. Various references to this instruction appear in his flying logbooks, including an entry on August 26th 1969 recording “T.V. Phot Princess Fatemeh Pahlavi” of which the actual photograph of the Princess in a Bell 47 helicopter appears on the Iranian.com website. (see link):- https://iranian.com/2009/03/31/pictory-princess-fatemeh-royal-chopper-pilot-1969/ -The date on the website stating c. Aug 29th is incorrect, the Captain recalls he was actually stood directly behind the photographer at the time on the 26th August 1969, he then took the Princess up for a 20 minute flight!-After the princess first flew solo, she presented him with this watch in his flight school office.-He kept the watch in a safe for many years. He said: “The Omega is much venerated but hasn’t been seen by many people. It holds lots of good memories for me, but I thought it would be jolly nice if it was worth something. If it sells, I’ll take my wife on a cruise.”-His exploits in evacuating a fleet of helicopters from Iran when the Shah was overthrown in 1979 are featured in author James Clavell’s 1986 novel Whirlwind. Commonly known as ‘Operation Sandstorm’Princess Fatemeh, died in London in 1987 aged 58.-Further links:-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatimeh_Pahlavi-https://www.sciencephoto.com/media/830146/view/apollo-11-worldwide-tour-tehran-october-1969-Condition Report: - Movement - currently functioning.
