An English porcelain presentation loving cup of Lichfield interest, attributed to Coalport, painted with flowers to one side, the other with a full inscription ‘A Birthday Present to Enos FennFebruary 1st 1874 Aged 21 years’, 23cm wide including handles, 14cm highNote: the loving cup which was probably made by Coalport. Research into the recipient Enos Fenn shows that the original owner was the Landlord at The Holly Bush Inn, Tamworth St, Lichfield along with his wife Mary Ann. The building still stands and is now occupied by a Chinese Restaurant. Tragically, the Fenn’s son Lance Corporal Thomas Percy Fenn was killed in action serving with the 2nd Essex Regiment in the Great War at the age of 19. His dedication can be seen on the WWI tablet in Lichfield’s Garden of Remembrance. Accompanying the mug is a group wedding photograph taken circa 1910. On the back row standing wearing a white starch collar, waistcoat and flat cap is Enos Fenn with his wife next to him. The outbuilding backdrop is thought to be the rear of The Holly Bush Inn. At this time Enos would be aged around 50. There are some young men in the image but it is not known if his ill-fated son Thomas is present. Condition: wear to gilding on top rim and handles.
