As part of his strategy he hired a young female designer to become Artistic Director for Dior Haute Joaillerie. The young woman was Victoire De Castellane, a designer with a huge reputation for playful and flamboyant designs.De Castellane had already spent fourteen years as Creative Director for costume jewellery at Chanel where she worked under Karl Lagerfield. The choice was inspired and De Castellane has continued to wow audiences with the outlandish eye catching and sculptural works of art that have made up her collections since day one.Filled with memories of his family home in Granville, northern France, Christian Dior sought to escape the tumultuous pace of Parisian fashion by spending his weekends in his garden at Milly-la-Forêt. Clad in wellies and accompanied by his gardener, Dior immersed himself in flowers, carefully cultivating select species to create the perfect arrangements. His passion almost turned into a business venture when he considered a partnership with his favourite florist, Mme Dedeban, however he ultimately chose to keep work separate from his rural life.Inspired by his love for nature and wishing to pay homage to the garden that Dior nurtured, Victoire de Castellane, Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie, began devising her Milly-la-Forêt collection.
