A large late 19th Century Granville Pottery 'hand drawn and painted' art pottery charger designed and decorated by Carlo Manzoni (previously of Della Robbia) with a classical male nude draped in a green shawl holding out a jug, the wide brim edge with incised leaves and a garland of blue tulips, incised marks, diameter 46cm

Antiporta incisa su rame con ritratto e armi di Filippo IV, capilettera e fregi xilografici. Gora all'angolo superiore destro dei primi tre fascicoli, altra gora lungo margine interno ai fascicoli Vv-Bbb, lavori di tarlo alla sguardia anteriore e all'antiporta. Legatura coeva in pergamena, titoli manoscritti al dorso, angoli usurati e con piccole mende, gora al piatto anteriore, lavori di tarlo lungo le cerniere interne. Edizione originale di questa fondamentale summa fiscale composta per codificare spese, esenzioni e tassazioni necessarie - tre le altre necessità - anche al mantenimento delle truppe nella Milano spagnola. Discendente di una famiglia patrizia milanese, l'Autore fu storico ed economista e alcune delle sue notizie sulle Spese di peste sono citate da Alessandro Manzoni ne I Promessi Sposi. Interessante anche per la veduta della città meneghina è l'antipoprta calcografica realizzata da Federico Agnelli, capostipite dell'omonima famiglia di notabili incisori milanesi, su disegno del pittore di Konstanz Johann Christoph Storer, attivo a Milano negli anni '40 e '50 del Seicento. Carlo Manzoni for Della Robbia, Birkenhead, a rare low-relief decorated circular bowl, sober decoration with six mice to the rim. Incised marks and monogram to the base. Diameter approximately 195mm CONDITION REPORT; Some possible signs of professional repair, there is a difference in the paint finish to the rim and a hairline crack across the bowl. Wear to the paint around the rim, crazed throughout.

Intéressante correspondance de l’éditeur de musique, sur les spectacles et les chanteurs en Italie. Nice 25 décembre 1878, sur la distribution d’Hamlet d’Ambroise Thomas à Naples. « J’ai aussi combiné pour le San Carlo le Carmen de Bizet […]. Il y a des pourparlers pour donner Mignon au théâtre Bellini de la même ville »â€¦ Précisions sur Le Donne curiose d’Usiglio qui sera créé à Madrid, et impressions du nouveau théâtre de l’Opéra-comique de Nice… 10 février, Devoyod est connu pour être « un fort mauvais coucheur », et il faut s’assurer que Padilla soit vraiment libre ; le maestro Cazenlone n’est qu’une « obscure personnalité musicale qui ne jouit d’aucune notoriété en Italie »â€¦ 22 février, à propos d’Hamlet à Rome et de Mignon à Naples… Rome 27 février, réflexions après une répétition d’Hamlet (interprètes, mise en scène) : « je crois que nous tenons un succès »â€¦ Milan 26 novembre, sur le succès de Carmen avec Galli-Marié au théâtre Bellini… 28 janvier 1880, sur Rigoletto à la Scala : « le public a été féroce dans son jugement mais si Mme Alboni avait eu de vrais amis on lui aurait évité cette catastrophe »â€¦ 10 juin, vu le succès grandissant de Stella, il est entré en pourparlers pour le produire à Naples ou Turin… 28 juin, l’Alboni, dans Lucia à Milan, a été l’occasion d’un scandale ; succès de la Donadio dans le Barbier… Florence 30 octobre, éloge de Maurel dans Hamlet… Milan 21 février 1881, sur Victor Maurel dans Ernani à la Scala, qui est « devenu l’enfant gâté du public » et va créer Simon Boccanegra remanié… 13 mars, très grand succès de Mignon au Théâtre Manzoni… Etc. On joint 3 lettres en son nom, et une L.A.S. de Carlo Pedrotti à Sonzogno.
