Fitted in original tin & with original certificate reading 'With Best Wishes from HRH the Prince of Wales & HRH the Duchess of Cornwall'. Also, with original outer cardboard packaging to a Duchy Tenant on St. Agnes the Isles of Scilly, with all original labels including the Buckingham Palace Royal Mail label. (Tin a little rusty, particularly inside the lid where contact has been made with the cake. Certificate a little marked). Please note that all items in this auction are previously owned & are offered on behalf of private vendors. Unwin (George). 'On Tin & Copper to India and China'. 'Further Statements and Correspondence Relative to the Tin and Copper Trade Between Cornwall, India and China,' first edition, with the signature of Michael Williams of Trevince house (Gwennap) and dated 1814, again signed by Michael Williams, Scorrier House where he would have moved after the extension completion in 1845, Michael Williams famously rode nonstop from Exeter to Redruth in order to beat the 'Quicksilver' mail coach, which was carrying news of a massive surge in tin and copper prices, he managed to overtake the coach and bought up all available mineral rights and made a tremendous fortune, the Williams family amassed possibly the finest collection of geological examples, additionally the family built the Great Adit, the Portreath tramway etc etc. from the collection of George Wiliams, the spine is slightly rubbed given this is a nearly fine copy of a very rare book, Kennington Cross, Lambeth, 1812.This correspondence dates from 1793 to 1810 involving government representatives, prominent Cornish mining adventurers of the day and the East India Company, 41 pages with 4 foldout tables of exports at the back with statistics dating from 1731-1791 for cake and brass to japan, copper shipped by the honourable East India Company to the East Indies 1792- 1812, an account for the quantity of tin shipped by the honourable East India Company to China 1789-1812 and finally the state of the export trade of tin and copper from Great Britain to all the countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America (as listed).

The Works, 16 volumes, London: Constable, 1922-24, half-titles to each, bookplate of William Roughead to front pastedowns, original blue blindstamped cloth gilt, top edge gilt, 8voQTY: (16)NOTE:BAL 13680.A landmark in Melville's resurgence, in immaculate condition. This set contains the first printing of 'Billy Budd' and 9 sketches. Furthermore, it contains the first publication in book form of 10 other short stories and sketches.Billy Budd was left unfinished by Melville, the manuscript being later found in a cake tin by biographer Raymond Weaver.
