The Joker first wore his spotted tie during the Gotham street parade and continued to wear it until his climactic showdown with Batman (Michael Keaton) and Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) atop Gotham City Cathedral. Created by Academy Award®-nominated costume designer Bob Ringwood, the Joker's costumes were designed to express the character's mindset, and Ringwood used vibrant colours to represent his descent into madness. The teal-coloured silk-like tie features a large dotted pattern and is knotted in a loose bow. Napier wore his suit at the apartment of his girlfriend Alicia Hunt (Jerry Hall). He added a coat to his attire when he bribed corrupt police officer Lieutenant Max Eckhardt (William Hootkins). Designed by Oscar®-nominated costume designer Bob Ringwood, the three-piece suit comprises a double-breasted jacket, waistcoat and trousers, all made of navy wool decorated with a faint red-and-white vertical-striped pattern. Located in the jacket's left interior pocket is a Tommy Nutter label displaying the text "No 2247, Date 5.9.88, J.Nicholson". The heavy overcoat is made of dark navy wool featuring a subtle orange tartan pattern, and a Tommy Nutter brand label is sewn onto the blue lining. Bruce Wayne's (Michael Keaton) trusted butler Alfred wore his glasses throughout the movie as he assisted Wayne in his mission to stop the Joker (Jack Nicholson) from terrorising Gotham.The glasses comprise a plastic tortoiseshell frame with round non-prescription lenses. They feature a thick bridge across the nose, and each of the glasses' arms has a small rivet. There are some signs of production use, including light scratching and marks on the lenses, and the arms are slightly warped outwards from being stretched when worn. Director's viewfinders allow the director and cinematographer to frame shots accordingly without the need for a camera. This lot originally came from the personal collection of renowned actress Helena Bonham Carter.The viewfinder features Burton's name and a list of 10 of his productions on which he used the viewfinder - including Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and Batman Returns - engraved on the side, and has a black woven cord so it can be worn around the neck. It is accompanied by a behind-the-scenes still from Burton's 1984 short film Frankenweenie, which features the director wearing a very similar viewfinder around his neck, alongside actors Shelley Duvall, Daniel Stern and Barret Oliver.Also included in the lot is Tim Burton's all-access pass to "Danny Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton", performed at the Royal Albert Hall in 2013. Later, Cobblepot used a remote device to gain control of the Batmobile while Batman (Michael Keaton) was driving.This lot consists of a flesh-colour latex nose and forehead facial appliance affixed to a plastic face; a resin and metal control device with a round red and white top and a separate base piece painted to appear metallic; a black and white newspaper with a production-made cover featuring The Penguin; and three plastic and metal campaign buttons. The Penguin (Danny DeVito) delivered his inspirational speech to a crowd of rocket-clad penguins, and models were used to fill out the group of live birds, many of whom wouldn't stay still for the duration of the sequence.Crafted from rubber with an internal armature, the model penguin wears a silver-painted helmet and harness. A red-and-white candy-striped resin rocket is attached to its back, and three miniature resin rockets are adhered to each wing. The missiles on the penguin are fragile, and the model displays glue remnants down the back and paint wear. It has received minor sympathetic restoration on its left wing. Batman wore his newly designed sonar suit when he and Robin (Chris O'Donnell) faced The Riddler (Jim Carrey) and Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) at the climax of the film. The Batsuit consists of a cast foam-rubber cowl; a voluminous black latex-coated fabric cape; moulded foam-rubber armour adhered to a thin neoprene suit; and a pair of leather boots with rubber detailing. Completing the costume is a pair of gauntlets, each featuring three resin fins, and a black polyurethane utility belt, which was worn as part of the "Panther suit", the movie's main Batsuit. The cowl displays various sculpted insets, including diagonal striping beneath the long ears, and there are three patches of Velcro around its bottom edge. A pair of ridged resin faux clasps are affixed via Velcro to each shoulder; these are replicas which have been added to complete the display. As the sonar suit was the first in the series to not feature the typical ellipse-shaped Batman chest emblem, this costume bears an elongated version of the iconic logo. The suit also features padded muscular detailing, a moulded codpiece and a zip fastening which runs down its back. Presented on a custom-built display, the Batsuit exhibits cracking on the foam rubber, glue remnants and wear to the latex coating on the cape, and there are signs of repair present on the cowl's left side. The lot remains in overall excellent condition considering its age. The Riddler twirled his iconic question-mark cane throughout the film, from the moment he teamed up with Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) to the sequence where he destroyed the Batcave, using the cane as a remote trigger for his powerful bombs.Costume designers Bob Ringwood and Ingrid Ferrin drew inspiration from the original Dick Sprang comic artwork of the character, as well as the attire worn by Frank Gorshin as the Riddler in the 1960s Batman TV series. They added the question-mark cane, which would become a fixture in comic-book depictions of The Riddler soon after.The gold-coloured cane is made of foam rubber with a metal core. It features the Riddler's signature question mark symbol as a handle, and a spiral pattern along its shaft. There are signs of wear to the gold finish and cracking, notably on the handle. Diamonds were used by Mr. Freeze to power his sub-zero suit and were seen throughout the film. This diamond was used in the hockey scene in the Natural History Museum at the beginning of the movie, and when Batman (George Clooney) knocked Freeze off the Gotham Observatory's telescope, causing his giant freeze gun to explode. The faux precious gem is made of clear resin and cast in a typical diamond shape. There are signs of production use, including scuff and scratch marks from the hockey sequence, and a small section of the diamond has melted, which was likely caused by pyrotechnics.
