LITERATUR: Friedrich von Boetticher, Malerwerke des 19. Jahrhunderts, Dresden 1891-1901 (Nachdruck 1969), Bd. I.2, S. 548, Nr. 53. Als Sohn eines Kupferstechers hatte sich Hess bereits im frühen Alter präzise grafische Fertigkeiten angeeignet, aufgrund derer er an der Akademie in München mit nur 14 Jahren angenommen wird. Während der Befreiungskriege gegen Napoleon begleitet er Fürst Carl Philipp von Wrede und skizziert auf den Schlachtfeldern, woraus anschließend Ölbilder entstehen, wie sein Debütwerk der Schlacht von Aucis sur Aube 1814, ausgeführt 1817. Sein akademisch geschultes, feinmalerisches Können empfiehlt ihn dem bayerischen Königshaus. Er begleitet den bayerischen König Otto I. nach Griechenland zur zeichnerischen und malerischen Dokumentation wichtiger staatstragender Ereignisse und entwirft für Ludwig I. einen Freskenzyklus der griechischen Unabhängigkeitsbewegung für die Arkaden des Hofgartens in München. Auf Einladung des Zaren Nikolaus I. begibt er sich 1839 nach Sankt Petersburg und Moskau, der ihn mit der malerischen Schilderung des Feldzuges gegen Napoleon von 1812 beauftragt hatte. Es entsteht dort ein Zyklus von 8 großen und 4 kleineren Bildern, deren Ausführung er in München noch bis 1855 weiterführt. Daneben finden seine Beobachtungen des russischen Volkes, der dortigen Architektur und Landschaft Eingang in kleinere, genreartige Werke. In diesen reichert er den erzählerischen Ausdruck der Szenen durch charakteristische Details in Architektur, Kleidung und landestypischen Gegenständen wie dem messingfarbenen Samowar und der Balalaika an, zusätzlich unterstrichen durch sein lebendiges Kolorit. Werke von Peter von Hess befinden sich in der Eremitage, Sankt Petersburg, der Neuen Pinakothek München sowie der Neuen Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Scottish-born musician, singer and songwriter best known for his work as the lead vocalist, flautist and acoustic guitarist of British rock band Jethro Tull. Anderson is a multi-instrumentalist who plays keyboards, bass guitar, bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone, harmonica, and a variety of whistles. His solo work began with the 1983 album Walk into Light, and since then he has released another five works, including the sequel to the Jethro Tull album Thick as a Brick (1972) in 2012, entitled Thick as a Brick 2. [NICHOLAS II CORONATION PROGRAMME]: A rare and very attractive large 12 x 17 luxury programme for the performances held in the Imperial Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, 17th May 1896, and for the public festivities on the occasion of the Holy Coronation of Tsar Nicholas II, in Cyrillic. The programme, consisting of eighteen pages, contains rich colourful chromolithograph paintings with ornated gilt presentations for the different activities held on the occasion of Nicholas II coronation. The different pages presenting `on the occasion of the Holy Coronation of His Imperial Majesty the Sovereign Emperor Nicholas Aleksandrovich and Her Imperial Majesty the Sovereign Empress Alexandra Feodorovna´, the performances of the Opera `A Life for the Tsar´, (Tsar Mikhail Feodorovich, act 1 and epilogue), music by Mikhail Glinka, words by Baron Egor Rozen; `The Pearl´ ballet in one act, libretto and choreography by Marius Petipa, music by Riccardo Drigo; "Ruslan and Ludmila", music by Mikhail Glinka; "Konyok-Gorbunok" (The Little Humpbacked Horse), "Yermak Timofeyevich or The Conquest of Siberia", etc.. Drawings and paintings by A. Riabushkin, E. Samokysh-Sudkovskaya, etc.. Playbills were printed in Aleksandr Levenson Association and in the Imperial Moscow Theatre printing-house in the chromolithograph technique.  Such souvenir programmes were presented to the selected and most extraordinary guests who were honoured to attend the gala concerts at the Bolshoi Theatre. In addition to the gala concert programme, there is a detailed description of the festive events during the coronation public celebration, such as theatrical performances, circus performers with circus of Nikitin Brothers and V.B.
