Description
A mid 18th century cherrywood comb-back Windsor armchair attributed to John Pitt, the shaped top rail above a vase shape splat with three spindles either side and a flat upright, the bow arms on five spindles and curved front supports, the large saddle seat with incised lines, on cabriole legs united by turned 'H' stretcher to pad feet. Old repairs to splat and stretcher. See Regional Furniture, The Journal of the Regional Furniture Society, vol XIX, 2005, pp.20-32 for a similar example with a label to the underside for John Pitt of Slough 1714-1759. There is evidence of a label to the underside of the above lot.
