A late 18th century French silver hilted smallsword with an engraved, hollow ground, triangular section blade and a mounted granulated leather scabbard, the hilt and shell guard decorated with piercing and chased vignettes of flowers, the grip wound with braided wire, one scabbard mount pricked "peds: mds: jour bissous a la tete a oir au bout du pont a toulouse", struck with indistinct discharge marks, c.1780, 40.75in (103.5cm) long.
