R.N.I.P.L.S silver medal, worn naming with part only remaining, which appears to be Ockady Minter. Now fitted with unofficial pendant mount. Fair to N Fine (pitted). Note: Ockady Minter, was one of four recipients of the silver medal -23rd November 1824: the vessel Belina, London to Grenada, was driven ashore on the south end of the Goodwin Sands, off Deal, Kent. In spite of the sea and heavy gales, the Masters of four boats put off in them at 4 am but had to haul off until daybreak. Then, with seas breaching over the wreck and people hanging on to the rigging, they bore up all four in a line and tried to get alongside before conditions became impossible. Using their knowledge of the tides, they saved the Master, Second Mate, three seamen and a boy from the wreck. All boats sustained damage. The wreck parted and broke up soon afterwards. Thirteen men had perished when the vessel was driven on to the Sands”. “Lifeboat Gallantry” by Barry Cox.
