A scarce and interesting "Royal Naval Air Service Kite Balloon Training Manual 1917", profusely illustrated with drawings, plans and 38 full page photographic plates, the back cover having a pocket containing linen backed folding diagrams for M type balloon and "Drachen" balloon (2); together with a framed photograph of Sub Lieutenant W Adams RNAS, in uniform, with section of cap tally of HMS Lion below and name of Edinburgh photographers; 2 small Stationery Office note books, one with the name W Adams on the cover and containing hand drawn silhouettes of British and German warships, the other containing notes relating to operating balloons and making observations, sketches, etc; another framed photograph, of a kite balloon being tethered from the aeroplane deck of HMS Lion, with HMS Princess Royal astern; and 9 small sepia photographs of German warships, presumably taken after the surrender of the German fleet, identified on the back in pencil. GC. A most interesting lot. Note: The HMS Lion cap tally is silk woven rather than gold wire, apparently this dates it to late 1918 to 1921.
