Buyers Terms and Conditions of Purchase
All charges are subject to VAT at the current rate with specific exceptions.
1) The Purchaser to be the highest bidder who will pay the hammer price plus a premium of 20% plus VAT.
2) In the case of a dispute the Lot may be re-offered at the discretion of the Auctioneer who shall be the sole arbitrator.
3) Each purchaser shall register with the Auctioneers giving their Name, Address and Telephone Number.
4) All purchases must be paid for, in full, and no Lots may be removed until such payments have cleared.
5) Payments are accepted in Cash, Cheque (subject to clearance), Credit Card (subject to a surcharge of 2%), Direct Debit (No surcharge) or BACS (online banking– details available from the office)
6) There will be a 50p charge on any payment of an amount below £10.00 on credit or debit cards.
7) The Auctioneers act as agents for the Vendor and reserve the right to bid on their behalf on Lots offered subject to reserve.
8) The Auctioneers will not be responsible for any loss, damage or injury occasioned to or sustained by persons on the premises.
9) All descriptions and advice are given as opinions only and are at the Auctioneers discretion. Whilst the Auctioneers list any defects that they have found it is the Buyers responsibility to examine Lots and determine the condition at the time of sale as no refunds will be made after the fall of the hammer (Subject to current legislation)
10) Lots marked in the catalogue with * are being sold for a VAT registered vendor and VAT at the appropriate rate will be added to the hammer price, as well as the buyers premium.
11) Commission bids are accepted by the Auctioneers who undertake to purchase the on the bidders behalf at the best advantage. Lots purchased by absent buyers will be consigned at the Auctioneers earliest convenience at packing and postage charges to be agreed.
12) Book purchases are not subject to VAT.
13) All electrical appliances are tested by the Auctioneers electrician, in compliance with current regulations, for safety, wiring, fuses and plugs. But this does not guarantee them in working order.
14) Where mechanical or electrical goods are marked “S/R” the Auctioneers have deemed them unserviceable and they are offered for spare or repair.
15) Where mechanical and electrical goods are unmarked or marked as “W/O” (working order) the Auctioneers will refund the purchase price in full upon the return of the goods (in original condition) if found not to perform the task they were intended for, within seven days of purchase.
16) The Auctioneers are registered with North Yorkshire County Council and all goods are offered in compliance with current legislation as required by the Trading Standards Office.
17) We offer a full refund on any electrical items if they are faulty and returned within 7 days of purchase.
18) Only certain lots have reference to damage and restoration. However, the absence of any such notice does not imply that the piece is free from defects, nor does it indicate that other defects are not also present. All potential buyers are deemed to have viewed the pieces they intend to bid for, and have fully satisfied themselves as to the condition of the piece.
Online Bidding
Thompsons Auctioneers (Harrogate) Ltd offer an online bidding service via the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale.
In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative
arrangements are agreed with Thompsons Auctioneers (Harrogate) Ltd :
1. authorise Thompsons Auctioneers (Harrogate) Ltd , if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and
2. confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Thompsons Auctioneers (Harrogate) Ltd through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Thompsons Auctioneers (Harrogate) Ltd are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and card holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale.
