SECRETARY/DESK - 18th c. Three-part Chippendale Mahogany Secretary/Desk, Boston, MA origin. Broken arch bonnet top with three carved and turned flame finials on square plinths, solid panel doors with shaped recesed panels. The interior has eleven open compartments with beaded edge shelves, molded edge, drop slant lid with inset breadboard ends, oxbow front with four graduated flush drawers with molded edge drawer dividers ending on bold ball and claw feet with a fan carved center drop pendant. There are six small rectangular drawers in the interior, three on either side of a fan carved center drawer with two small blocked front drawers below, flanked by three letter slots on each side, large brass handles. 99 1/2" high, 42" x 24". Old refinish, doors restored maintaining original hardware, breadboard ends on lid replaced, old replaced brasses, normal shrinkage cracks to left and right sides of case, minor old corner chip repair on top drawer. From a Maryland estate.
