AN 18 BORE BAVARIAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN BY JOSEPH KUCHENREITER A RATISBONNE, CIRCA 1750 with blued two-stage barrel cut with eight grooves for ball, fitted with silver `spider` fore-sight, stamped with gold-lined barrelsmith`s mark (Neue Støckel 658) and a series of decorative marks at the breech, border-engraved tang numbered `2`, signed bevelled border-engraved lock, figured walnut half-stock carved with scrollwork about the tang, raised cheek-piece, brass mounts including side-plate and butt-plate with tang of shaped outline, carved wooden trigger-guard, and horn fore-end cap (ramrod missing) 91cm; 35 7/8in barrel

Provenance A member of the Wittelsbach family, sold in these rooms 8th December 2010, lot 290.

Joseph Kuchenreuter, a member of the well known Bavarian gunmaking family, is recorded in Regensburg (Ratisbonne), circa 1712-69.
