Pierre Boichod, ébéniste, reçu maître en 1769

Catalogue note
Based at "A La Boule Blanche", rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Pierre Boichod worked for the cabinet-makers Migeon and Jean-François Oeben, and this secretary is reminiscent of the work of the famous cabinet-maker and his brother Simon. Pierre Boichod distinguished himself in the late Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, and this secretary is a perfect example.

This unusual marquetry can also be found on a writing table stamped by Pierre Roussel, which also bears certain similarities to our secretary: central and side panels with protrusion, gilt bronze frame and recesses on the lower part of the belt ; this table was sold at Christie's in London on 12 December 1991, lot 55.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
