A Victorian silver ‘Black Watch’, plaid brooch for Captain Cecil Eykn., hallmarked Edinburgh, c1880, makers mark ‘H.C&co’. The reverse engraved ‘Captain Cecil Eykyn - The Black Watch - born 5th june 1867, died 8th feb 1900’. 10cms diam. Footnote: Captain Cecil Eykn is listed in the Cambridgeshire Roll Of Honour - for the Boer War a below:2nd battalion, wounded at Koodoosberg, 7th Feb 1900, died next day. Born june 1867, educated at Harrow, entered Royal Highlanders from 3rd battalion, King’s Own Light Infantry, july 1889. Promoted to Lieutenant january 1891 and Captain november 1898.He had served with his battalion in the Kimberly Relief Column and was present at the battle of magersfontein.
