First and only edition. With engr. plate of coat of arms and 49 (3 folding plates, the others in the text) engr. maps. Boschini's work contains maps of almost all the islands of the Greek archipelago, accompanied by short descriptions written by Boschini himself. "The maps can be traced back to those in the similar isolario of 1485 by Bartolommeo dalli Sonetti. Boschini's general map, a reduction of his own map of Crete of 1645, derives from an earlier manuscript map by Francesco Basilicata dating from 1629" (Sh.). Like his work on Crete published in 1651, Boschini wrote the "Arcipelago" to celebrate Venetian valour in the face of the Turkish attacks. - Light marginal waterstain throughout (not affecting the folding plates). 18th cent. green half-calf, spine gilt, gilt lettered red spine label, gilt edges; spine somewhat rubbed and torn at head, upper joint split and with old repair.
