Phillips 3456 (A. nach 1762 mit 98 Ktn.). - Von den Karten mit Dat. 1705-1785 entspricht etwa die Hälfte den von Ph. aufgezählten, hier jedoch alle in späterer Ausgabe und fast immer mit Verlagsvermerk Dezauche. Neu hinzugekommen sind gut 30 Karten meist von Sanson/Jaillot, ebenfalls in der Ausgabe bei Dezauche. Die auf dem Titel und auch den meisten Karten angegebene Dezauche-Adresse lautet "rue des Noyers près celle des Anglois" (s. hierzu Tooley, Mapmakers I, 366f.). Mit Karten der Welt (3), Polktn. (2), Kontinente (4), Afrika (4), Amerika (7) und Asien (8) sowie zahlr. europ. Länder- und Gebietskarten. Besonders bemerkenswert in der Asien-Abteilung [strong]die 2. Ausgabe der berühmten Karte der Nordwestpassage:[/strong] "Carte des nouvelles découvertes au Nord de la Mer du Sud, tant à l'Est de la Siberie et du Kamtchatka, qu'à l'Ouest de la Nouvelle France" (Kershaw 1202; Tooley, French 105). "Caused an immediate sensation. The map demonstrated the coherence of the Russian discoveries (Bering) along the Aleutian islands, and the Alaskan coastline with the 'discoveries' of Admiral de la Fuente" (Pedley S. 74ff.; vgl. auch Wagner, NW Coast 566). Ferner 2 kl., jeweils in 1 Fol.-Bl. eingesetzte grenzkol. Ktn. von Bonne (europ. Rußland, Südamerika) eingebunden sowie lose beiliegend grenzkol. Delamarche-Kte. von Lothringen dat. 1792 (alle 3 oben nicht mitgezählt). - Leicht fleckig, Ränder stellenw. auch wasserfl. Hier und da meist kl. Randläsuren, einige Ktn. mit Knitterfalten, 1. Weltkte. mit kl. Wurmgang im w. Unterrand, Umgebungskte. von Paris mit Bugeinriß bis ins Bild. Titel alt gestempelt und mit 2 Wurmgängen in den w. Rändern. A later Dezauche edition of the atlas with 84 (83 col. in outline, 1 in body col.) engr. maps on 88 double-page plates. Reusing the maps of Delisle and Buache (about half of the maps listed by Phillips) and also about 30 Sanson-Jaillot maps. Particularly noteworthy the famous map concerning the Bering expeditions and the configuration of the North Pacific in its 2nd state. Two tipped in maps by Bonne and a loose one by Delamarche are added (not counted above). - Some foxing and soiling, and some marginal waterstaining. Creasing and marginal fraying in places, larger centerfold tear to map of Paris. Small worm hole to margin of 1st world map, and 2 to title. Old stamp to title. Bound in contemp. calf spine gilt, rather rubbed and worn, joints cracked.
