William Williamson was born in Wick, Caithness, and attested there for the Seaforth Highlanders on 10 April 1896, having previously served in the 1st Orkney Artillery Volunteers. He served with the 1st Battalion in the Sudan; with the 18th Mounted Infantry Company in South Africa during the Boer War; and again with the 1st Battalion on the North West Frontier of India.
Sold with a copy of a published drawing showing the Seaforth Highlanders storming the Zabera at the Battle of the Atbara; and copied research.

Outside of the UK
