An elegant two handled Georgian Silver Goblet London 1807/08, makers Samuel Godbehere & Edward Wigon, having reeded band and flared foot, the attractive handles most unusually having flared bases depicting hearts in the arts and crafts style although well before that period, inscribed to one side is ``Owen`s School, Islington, Presented by the friends and neighbours of Midshipman Donald A Gyles RNVR in honour of his gallant conduct while serving on HMS Broke in the action of April 20th 1917`` (6 1/8`` tall, 6 5/8`` diameter over handles, 392 gms. approx. For his stirling efforts Gyles and other of the crew received the Distinguished Service Cross. He took charge on the forecastle and although wounded in the eys, organised a gun`s crew from the survivors of the crews which had suffered heavy casualtieis and kept the guns on the forecastle going. He repelled the German sailors who swarmed on board from the destroyer which was rammed and remained at his post until after the action was finished.
