Galley proofs for ''The Trumpet of Conscience'', a collection of speeches by Martin Luther King, Jr., published just after his death in 1968. New York: Harper & Row, 1968. Perhaps the only such galley proofs in private hands, document contains the five speeches that King gave in November and December, 1967 before the Canadian Broadcasting System (CBC) including: ''Impasse in Race Relations'', ''Conscience and the Vietnam War'', ''Youth and Social Action'', ''Nonviolence and Social Change'' and ''A Christmas Sermon on Peace''. Document contains the full 28 slides, except for slide 4, which appears to be the introduction by Coretta Scott King. Slides have corrections, including some typos and formatting errors. Each slide measures 24'' x 6.5'', containing the 77 pages of the book as it would be published. A few paperclip impressions and chipping to page ends, otherwise near fine condition. A scarce document of King's final words.
