Description
Olympics Memorabilia 1936 Olympic Silver Trophy Given at the ''Sternfahrt'' Motorsports Rally 1936 Olympic silver trophy made by the Nazi government for its ''Sternfahrt'' Rally, where drivers from all over Europe converged upon Berlin just before the start of the Olympic games. Conceived by Hitler with the belief that German cars would dominate the event, the Rally began on 22 July 1936, as 124 cars and 99 motorcycles throughout Europe raced to Berlin in the hopes of winning the Rally. The event ended on 31 July and the awards ceremony, where this trophy was presented, took place on 3 August 1936. The winner, Fritz Huske von Hanstein, went on to become one of the most famous racing drivers of his era. This silver trophy cup is engraved on the front with the 5 Olympics rings and ''Olympia Sternfahrt / 1936''; the Nazi eagle sits atop the lid. Trophy bears the hallmarks of Austrian silversmith ''Art. Krupp / EPNS'' on the underside of the base. Measures 7.25'' tall and 3.75'' in diameter at its widest point. Tarnishing, else near fine.
