A 17th Century Augsburg table-top or travelling chest, the green stained and embossed leather exterior with plated mounts and swan neck handle, the top rising to reveal a parquetry inlaid compartment over a fall front with marquetry inlaid interior depicting a figure with stringed instrument, camel and horse before a town enclosing a central cupboard door similarly decorated surmounted by two dummy drawers and flanked by two pairs of small drawers over a single long drawer as two. Bears handwritten pen and ink label "17th Century Augsburg box containing drawers inlaid with coloured woods & cupboard on outside in green leather"(Seemingly in the Queen's own hand), a typed label inscribed "With best wishes from The Queen" and later handwritten note inscribed "From Queen Mary to my Great Aunt Lady Northcliffe" 22.5 cm wide x 15.3 cm deep x 19 cm high (Provenance: Lady Northcliffe thence by descent)

CONDITION REPORTS
Metalwork with some oxidisation, wear and dirt. Rear bracket missing one pin to the top. Leatherwork basically extant but with some signs of old worm and rippling in various places. Interior lid with patches to the two parquetry work panels - see images. Interior tray with split to the right hand banding and signs of wear and tear throughout. The marquetry inlaid panel with signs of scratching in several areas, denting etc conducive with age and use. Colours of parquetry work basically good having been enclosed - see images for further detail. Base appears basically sound though very basic, presumably as would not be seen. Again, see images for further detail re: leather wear and tear etc
