A fine 18th Century Continental porcelain oval box, probably Meissen, the top painted with fruit, flowers and butterfly over similarly decorated sides, with wrigglework decorated gold mounts, opening to reveal a portrait study of a woman sewing, the base decorated with butterfly, insects and fruit and flowers, unmarked, 7.5 cm long x 6.3 cm wide x 4.2 cm high (Provenance: With handwritten note "Given by the last Emperor of Brazil to a Godchild of his. The family fortune went to pot & the box went to Uncle's. Uncle sold it me AUFL" - from the family of Mary Ferrier Fergusson of Glasgow, wife of amateur Paleontologist Alfred Nicholson Leeds of Eyebury Farm Peterborough)

CONDITION REPORTS
The piece is basically sound throughout with no visible signs of damage or repair. Under ultraviolet light there is no sign of any restoration. The gold appears in good condition though with some signs of wear particularly to the exterior rim of the base. There is also some sign of wear to the base of the piece itself to the extremities conducive with age and use - see images for further detail. The note is discoloured and has damage where it has been folded in the past - see images for detail here also
