WILKINSON JOHN GILBERT (fl. 1830-70) "Horse in a landscape", oil on canvas, signed and dated 1850 lower right, inscribed on label verso "The property of The Late Captain Freestone of St Margaret's South Elmham which was sold for £100 for export to America ......, painted by WJ GILBERT 1860", 49 cm x 62 cm
CONDITION REPORTS
There is crazing and cracking throughout, particularly noticeable to the horse itself. In need of a clean. Areas of dirt and some scratches, etc. There is a small, almost hole, to the bottom right hand corner and another two along the bottom edge. Has possibly been cleaned and re-varnished in the past. There are some drip marks particularly visible under UV but also with the naked eye. There are also some marks to the canvas in line with the stretchers on the reverse. There is damage to the frame with losses. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for more details.
