Description
LIEUT. R BEECHY RN (LATER CAPTAIN / ADMIRAL RICHARD BRIDGES BEECHY) (1808-1895) "Limerick harbour with shipping", a busy harbour scene with figures in row boats in foreground and on quayside, further sailing vessels and buildings in background", oil on canvas, signed and inscribed "Limerick" lower right, 57 cm x 78 cm, together with a note inscribed "We purchased this picture at The Olympia Fine Arts Fair in 1986 (from memory for £1000) These naval details of Beechy established that he was indeed a Lieutenant (see signature) when stationed in Ireland. This is therefore an early Beechy picture RMB 1/2004" and a letter from A J Francis of The Naval Historical Library, Ministry of Defence London dated 26th June 1986 giving some biographical information about the artist
CONDITION REPORTS
Has been cleaned and restored included varnished, there is cracking and splits and some small loses to the paint work underneith the varish. Appears to have been relined, canvas hass a strange tecture on back, almost lijke the back has been varinshed as well. General wear and tear condusive to age and use, see images for more details.
