Description
A 19th Century padouk (or padauk) wood reading table, the double ratchet top with moulded edge and book rest over a fretwork carved frieze on off-set square chamfered supports united by an undertier, 63 cm x 48 cm x 76.5 cm high (closed)
Condition Report
Both ratchet systems work. No drawer at the front of the piece - just kneehole recess. Very badly stained and split in several places throughout. Loss of wood to the undertier on one side. Back rail of the undertier appears to be missing something - three holes present but nothing obvious missing. The opposite piece is loose and broken. Appears the piece should has had castors / metal feet at some point. Has clearly been badly stored - white marks, etc variously throughout - possibly moth damage - appears to come off quite easily with scraping. Heavy wear and tear to include knocks, bumps, scrapes, etc, conducive with age and use. See images for more details.
