Description
A late Victorian walnut cased polyphon, the three quarter galleried top above a frieze decorated with glass panel inscribed "Automate á Musique", over an arched panelled door enclosing the movement flanked by half cut turned pilasters raised on a similarly decorated base with single cupboard door to turned feet, together with 20 various discs
CONDITION REPORTS
Wear and scuffs, various chips and cracks. Large vertical crack to door. Extensive scratching and scuffing to door. Warping and cracking to veneers, particularly extensive to sides, and throughout. Various chips and losses to veneers. Possibly some alterations (see photos). Old woodworm holes and chips and damage to base, and throughout. Colour appears to be reasonably good. The discs vary in condition and include some losses, denting, rusting. Some appear in reasonably good shiny condition, others very rusty and with knocks, dents, losses etc. We can make no guarantees as to whether or not this is complete nor whether it is in working order. One of the discs did play when tried out, although there were various hesitations and clicking and knocking noises so mechanism does appear to require some attention. Some soldering to brass fitment to right of comb. Size of discs approx 62cm.
