Rattar, each signed and captioned in pencil, the last three coloured and mounted, the first two framed and glazed, image size 23 x 30cm. (5) . Note: J. D. Rattar (1876-1957), born at Fedaland, Northmavine, was the most well known of Shetland's pre-1950 photographers. Jack, like others of his surname, was born Ratter. However early in his career as a professional photographer he adopted the spelling Rattar. . His work included postcards, mounted and unmounted photos and souvenir photos in packs, his earliest photos being photographs of the Fedaland haaf station in 1890/92. After Rattar's death his widow bequeathed his negatives, slides, enlarger and other items to the Zetland County Council. [Cluness, A.T. "A Time to Keep", Scots Magazine, Feb. and Mar. 1957]
