Important Information
This Auction results from my visit a year ago to Haig House to seek support for a series of four sales to raise a six-figure sum for the Royal British Legion funding of Blast Injury Research.
The Centenary of the First World War presented an appropriate time for such an appeal and the concept was based on the successful Auction I had organised in 1982 - The Great Falklands Auction. In a short address to the Royal British Legion Annual Conference I asked the Membership to donate uniforms and military items to our appeal.
The response has been tremendous, both from the UK and North America. Donations from the public continue, with cartons arriving daily. These will feature in the second Auction to be held in March 2016.
I am confident that this Auction on June 28th will prove a successful start to our fund raising efforts.
The organising and co-ordination for such an Auction requires a great deal of hard work and commitment. I am extremely grateful to all the many volunteers who have freely given their time and effort to make the first Auction happen.
I would like to dedicate my own involvement to my son Douglas who completed a tour on OP TELEC in Iraq – while as an ex-Regular and Territorial Officer I anxiously awaited his safe return, as do all families of military personnel.
The work of the Blast Injury Research Centre will yield great benefit to those injured in such conflicts worldwide, both military and civilian.
