Geschnitzte Skulptur des Josef von Nazareth, Deutschland,18.Jh. Linde, geschnitzt und polychrom

Josef von Nazareth, der Bräutigam der Jungfrau Maria, ist hier in einer Holzschnitzerei nach der klassischen Ikonografie repräsentiert. Die ganzfigurige Darstellung zeigt Josef in aufrechtstehender Position, das Jesuskind ist auf seinem rechten Arm positioniert. In der linken Hand hält Josef einen Gehstock. Seine Gesichtszüge sind leidend, als ahne er schon den Leidensweg des Kindes.

Zustand:
Die Skulptur zeigt Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren. Die Farbfassung ist partiell stark abgeblättert, krakeliert und berieben. Es zeigen sich kleinere Bestoßungen und Spannungsrisse im Holz sowie teils wurmbefall (inaktiv). Der obere Abschluss des Gehstockes ist nur locker eingesteckt. Die Höhe misst ca. 103 cm. (nlu)

Saint Joseph, Virgin Mary’s bridegroom, is depicted here in the form of a wood carved sculpture in the manner of the classical iconography. The full body sculpture shows Joseph in an upright standing position, the baby Jesus is positioned on his right arm. In his left hand he is holding a walking stick. His facial features display pain, as if he was presaging the child’s life of suffering.

Condition:
The sculpture bears signs of age and wear. The color is partially heavier flaked off, rubbed and with craquelure. Small bumps and tension cracks can be found in the wood as well as worm infestation (inactive). The upper part of the walking stick is only inserted loosely. The height measures c. 103 cm. (nlu)
