ENFIELD, ENGLAND A RARE .303 (BRIT) BOLT-MAGAZINE SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL 'No1 MKVI', serial no. 27597A, circa 1929, with blued 25 1/2in. barrel, twin bayonet lugs at the exposed muzzle, blade fore-sight with roll-tipped side protectors, vernier ladder folding rear-sight with auxiliary battle sight, machined receiver with thumb cut-out forwards of the charger bridge, milled out well behind the safe, magazine cut-off and circular cocking-piece to the bolt, wood butt-stock (armourer's inlet repair at heel), brass heel-plate with central trap-door, later No4 fore-end and No4 MKI top-cover, correct style magazine Other Notes: No1 MKVI's could be loosely termed the transitional rifle between the No1 MKIII and the No4 MKI. Most were set up in the late 1920's and originally had a large square chequered panel to the fore-piece. When war broke out, the stores were raided for any usable arms and the few No1 MKVI's that were on hand were 'upgraded' to conform with the then current No4 rifle, which usually involved swapping the chequered fore-arm for the plain heavier version of the No4 MKI, as represented here.S1 - Sold as a Section 1 Firearm under the 1968 Firearms Act
