AN AUSTRIAN 20-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN BY KARL PIRTO IN WIEN, circa 1855, with 30in. etched twist sighted barrels signed in gold on the rib and with gold-inlaid and engraved decoration at the breeches, engraved patent breeches each with pierced platinum plug, scroll engraved tang and signed back-action locks, engraved hammers heightened with gold-inlaid cross-hatching, well figured walnut half-stock with raised cheek-piece, chequered grip and fore-end, engraved iron mounts, engraved German silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons (one missing a screw), iron sling mounts, and original brass-mounted ramrod. Footnote: Karl Pirto is recorded in Vienna between 1850 and 1867.
