A MAGNIFICENT CASED SUITE OF FLINTLOCK PISTOLS BY JOSEPH EGG, LONDON, circa 1815-20, comprising A PAIR OF 38-BORE SAW-HANDLED DUELLING PISTOLS, 16in. overall, with rebrowned twist octagonal barrels each inlaid with two small gold-inlaid motifs towards the breech, silver fore-sight, patent breeches each signed 'J. EGG' in gold, inlaid with a platinum line and with platinum-lined touch-hole, tangs each incorporating the rear-sight and engraved with scrollwork and a martial trophy, signed flat bevelled detented bolted locks each with stepped tail, 'French' cock, rainproof pan, roller, and engraved with foliage and a sunburst, figured walnut half-stocks each with chequered butt, set triggers, engraved iron mounts including trigger-plates each with pineapple finial, apertures for an attachable shoulder-stock, and flat pommels marked 'JOSH. EGG'S IMPROVEMT.', each with a silver escutcheon on each side of the butt, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, silver fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods, one with worm, the other with powder-measure; A 44-BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER OVER AND UNDER PISTOL, 13in. overall, with rebrowned twist barrels signed on the top flat of the upper barrel 'J.
