A CASED PAIR OF IRISH 38-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY M. DERMOT, DUBLIN, early 19th century, 16in. overall, with signed browned twist octagonal barrels each with silver fore-sight, case-hardened patent breeches each with platinum-lined touch-hole and inlaid with four platinum lines, foliate engraved tangs each incorporating the rear-sight, signed flat bevelled engraved bolted locks (one cock and steel replaced, the other top-jaw and jaw screw replaced) each with stepped tail, roller and silver-lined rain-proof pan, figured walnut half-stocks each with chequered butt, engraved silver mounts including spurred trigger-guards each with foliate finial and decorated on the bow with a trophy, flat-bottomed butts each with a band of silver engraved with running foliage and an oval pommel engraved with foliage, set triggers, silver fore-end caps each engraved with a sunburst, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, escutcheons each engraved with a crest and initials, and original ramrods, one with worm, the other with powder-measure, both pistols re-coloured, in fitted mahogany case lined in green baize with some accessories including brass-mounted leather-covered three-way flask, the lid with brass circular escutcheon and flush-fitting carrying handle.
