The Art for Cancer Charities online auction: a bit from the organisers
Grayson Perry, Chris Levine, Orlando Bloom and Joanna Lumley are among a host of famous faces who have given their artistic backing to a family fundraiser dreamt by twelve Northamptonshire mums wanting to make a difference.
A private view of the eclectic array of art was at a family camping evening – the Grand Sleepover – set up to raise money for Action Against Cancer and Brain Tumour Charity Silas Pullen Fund.
The array of top talent came after a simple request, as organiser Natasha Douglas explained: “We asked a range of well-known people to donate five minutes of their time and send us a handmade postcard with a sketch, doodle or quote. The response was overwhelming“
“This is an extraordinary collection of art. I am so happy that my picture will raise money for these two inspirational cancer charities” Ronni Ancona, Scottish actress, impressionist and author.
Co-organiser Gabriella Grafftey-Smith said: “‘What is most humbling about this exercise is that everyone has been touched in some way by cancer, so by pulling together through the contribution of individual talent, it gives each person a sense of empowerment – a sense that they can make a difference. I urge everyone to please, get bidding.”
Other stars taking part in the postcard exhibition include actor Joseph Fiennes, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Pippa Middleton, Olly Murs, Mario Testino, Bear Grylls, William Fox-Pitt, chefs Michel Roux Snr and Jnr, Nuno Mendez and Gordon Ramsey, food critic William Sitwell and contemporary artists Mark Adlington, Emma Levine, George Irvine, Oliver Akers-Douglas, Jane Corsellis and Veronica Ward.
