A Sapper's flintlock axe; Germany, middle 18th century. Oval rounded shaft with a heavy axe blade and inlet flintlock pistol. The axe blade has the stamped mark 'I (cross) S;Germany, middle 18th century .Oval rounded shaft with a heavy axe blade and inlet flintlock pistol. The axe blade has the stamped mark 'I (cross) S'. Cock and flat of the lock have floral engraving. Octagonal barrel becoming round after a baluster, the weapon number '16' stamped at the breech. The stock has two stamped monograms 'MT' (owner?) and brass furniture. The trigger guard is lightly engraved. An iron spike of diamond section sticks out from the bottom of the wide brass shoe. Length 91 cm. Euro 4.000
