S. MOGINIE, PIMLICO, A SILVER PAIR CASED POCKET WATCH the dial with black Roman hour numerals, gold hands and subsidiary seconds dial, the movement having a chain fusee, plain flat balance wheel with an engraved backcock, signed on the backplate with the maker's name and serial number 'S. Moginie, Pimlico, 1704', the inner case stamped 'IG 764' along with the hallmark for silver, London 1812, diameter 54 mm. * Samuel Moginie is recorded as a clock and watchmaker who succeeded Ralph Glover at 1, Prince Row, Pimlico, London in the early part of the 19th century. He is known to have still been working in 1842 and a regulator & bracket clock by him are illustrated in Cescinsky & Webster's 'English Domestic Clocks' where it is stated that 'his regulator clocks are especially fine in workmanship'.
