AN UPRIGHT WALNUT POLYPHON playing 19 inch interchangeable metal discs, with a crank wound movement and coin slots either side with signs stamped ‘Drop a Penny in the Slot’, the walnut case having a decorative pediment to the top with shell decoration and turned pillars, with applied turned pillars to the front door which has wood frets to the top corners and an arched glass front above, in which is set the name ‘Polyphon’ with a bone plaque to the bottom of the door stamped with the retailer’s name ‘T. Rhodes and Sons Ltd., 18 Silver Street, Halifax’, under which is a lockable drawer for collecting the coins, complete with twenty discs, German, Circa 1870, height 128cm.
