On 6 October 1785 Cornelius Smelt (Deputy Governor of Southsea Castle, Hampshire, later Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Man) married Mary Trant Ottley at Richmond, Yorkshire. The parish register gives his residence as York, Yorkshire, and hers as Richmond, Yorkshire. They had at least the following children:

Anne, who married Major Duncan McDougall of Argyllshire, Scotland at Government House, Castle Rushen, Isle of Man on 20 March 1817, died at Edinburgh, Scotland on 18 March 1823, and was buried at Edinburgh: a monumental inscription gives her age at death as 34, pointing to a birth year of about 1789
Leonard, baptised at Felixkirk with Boltby, Yorkshire on 2 January 1790
Henry, baptised at Felixkirk with Boltby, Yorkshire on 22 August 1791
Caroline, born on 3 August 1792 and baptised at Thirsk, Yorkshire on 30 September 1792
Mary, born on 14 December 1794 and baptised at Thirsk, Yorkshire on 7 January 1795
Lucy, born on 25 August 1796 and baptised at Thirsk, Yorkshire on 20 October 1796
Mary was buried at Thirkleby, Yorkshire on 9 October 1797.

***CONDITION REPORT***Large shallow chip to the glass, a few dirt spots, gold locket frame with suspension loop.

VAT
Please note that due to the withdrawal of the Retail Export Scheme by HMRC, we are unable to provide VAT refunds documentation for hand-carried exports. In order to qualify for a VAT refund, your lots must be exported by a shipper
and valid exportation documentation must be provided.

PAYMENT TERMS
Payment is required by Wednesday 19th of June by debit card, BACS, Worldpay and cash (subject to money laundering regulations). Please note we do not accept credit cards or American Express.

BOOK A COLLECTION
Collection is by appointment only. You need to book a collection time by 4pm the previous day. Visit the website or follow the link on your invoice to book a collection time. Purchases not collected within two weeks of the sale date
will be held in storage and charged at the rate of £5+ VAT per lot per day. Please contact us if you require special arrangements to be made regarding storage.
