(John Murrary), Duke Street Dublin.A good collection of Club Medals.Phil Shanahan (1928-2012) started his GAA journey with the Tipperary minors, and achieved success in the 1946 season, claiming a Munster title, with Shanahan scoring the winning goal before elevating to the senior ranks. Here he gained great recognition and success as an All Ireland and Munster senior hurling hero with Tipperary in the three in a row victories of 1949, 50 and 51. He also played senior hurling with Dublin in 1954 and 55. He also won 4 National Hurling League medals in 1949, 1950, 1952 and 1957 and 4 Railway Cup medals in 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1953 with Tipperary. He won a county senior hurling medal in 1960 with Toomevara and is regarded as being one of hurling’s finest midfielders. He also had an involvement with Portlaoise GAA club, where he helped the club to five championship football titles between 1966 and 1971, he also managed Killenaule GAA club in the 1980s, after his retirement from Esso Teoranta. A Magnificent collection from one Tipperary’s greatest hurler. He is regarded by the GAA and supporters alike as one of the game’s finest mid-fielders.
