Description
Edwardian hinged jewel box with tortoise shell lid inlaid with silver in a wreath motif and wheat ear swag detail and border, raised on four turned feet. Diameter measures 2 1/2ins (6.5cm). Hallmarked William Comyns London 1908. The jewellery box is in good overall condition. There are some slight scratches and tarnish marks on the outside, but no serious damage. The silver is a bit more tarnished and discoloured on the inside of the lid. The tortoiseshell has some small scratches and notches to the outside, and a small build-up of dirt around the silver edging. The inlaid silver decoration is in excellent condition. Inside the lid is very dirty. The velvet inside is in good condition, with barely any wear, and only a few small stains and marks. The underside of the box is marked with polish. Both the hallmark on the lid and that on the main body are legible, but the sponsor's mark on the body is quite badly rubbed. On the bottom of the box is 'A796', and another unrecognised mark.
